The Eclectic Book Review of Sky of Dust: The Last Weapon by Joshua Bonilla

Sky of Dust: The Last Weapon by Joshua Bonilla takes place in a post apocalyptic world.  The author has created an interesting and intriguing story that keeps you wanting more.  The plot has several cliff hangers and provides ample dramatic tension to move the story along.  However I felt that the characters and the world they inhabit were somewhat lacking in the details and descriptions that would truly complete this story.  Overall though this is a good story with great potential that I would recommend to teens and young adults.

Description, Characterization & World-Building Rating: 3.5/5

While the characters are likable and the book contains sufficient world building to set the scenery in which the story takes place, I found the characters to be somewhat lacking in personality and depth.  I would have preferred more depth to the characters and more detailed descriptions of the characters and the world they inhabit.

Plot & Narration Rating: 4/5

The plot is very interesting and moves the story along quickly with some nice twists.  The prologue does a good job of grabbing your attention and the epilogue nicely sets the stage for a sequel.  Overall the narration is easy to read and also moves the story along nicely, but it felt somewhat awkward to see the short one to two sentence paragraphs.  If the paragraphs were condensed, this book would probably be about half its current 260 page length, leaving plenty of room for the additional details I mentioned before that would flesh out the story better.

Value Rating: 4/5

The current Amazon list prices are $2.99 for the Kindle version which is a good value and $12.99 for paperback, which some may consider high.

Overall Rating: 3.8/5

The Eclectic Book Review of Once Upon a Time Ferret by S.D. Palmer

On page one I thought I was going to have to force myself to finish this book, but I was pleasantly mistaken.  Although I felt the characterization and character naming conventions could have been much better, overall this book kept me turning page after page.  It almost felt like the author struggled some with the plot but he certainly made up for it in narration.  This book would be appropriate for young adults and adults alike who want to lose themselves in a fresh new sci-fi story, and the price can’t be beat.

Description, Characterization & World-Building Rating: 3.5/5

This book is very descriptive with decent world building but the characterization leaves something to be desired.  I found many of the characters to be stereotypical and most lacked what I would consider imaginative names.  Regardless, the description and world building the author employed kept me turning the pages.

Plot & Narration Rating: 4/5

I found the plot to be somewhat lacking, almost feeling as if the author struggled to piece it together as they went along, but the narration was great and more than made up for the plot shortcomings.

Value Rating: 5/5

With a current Amazon list price of $0.99, this book is a good value.

Overall Rating: 4.2/5
