The Eclectic Book Review of Ashes of Heroes (War of Regret) by Gabriel Archer and Jack Canaan

Ashed of HeroesAshes of Heroes (War of Regret) by Gabriel Archer and Jack Canaan is one of the by far one of the best self-published novels I have read.  The authors are exceptionally gifted storytellers who have taken great care to craft every aspect of this story about rich multi-dimensional characters that live in a highly detailed and oftentimes bone chilling world they have created.  I highly recommend Ashes of Heroes to any serious fantasy lover!

Description, Characterization & World-Building Rating: 5/5

This is one of the most descriptive novels I have read in a long time.  The characters are multilayered and inhabit a world steeped in detail and culture that it can sometimes be hard to remember it is fictional.

Plot & Narration Rating: 4.5/5

This story has more twists than a politician’s campaign promises, but it’s much more satisfying!  Although it can sometimes be a little difficult to follow, believe me when I tell you to just go with it.  You’ll be happy you did.  The narration is well done.  The author’s are true wordsmith’s who have obviously taken great care to craft how their story is read and interpreted.  My only complaint is with the dialogue.  Since it is generally included in the paragraphs with the rest of the story as opposed to being set off alone, it can sometimes be difficult to follow and I found myself having to read some passages again.

Value Rating: 5/5

The current Amazon list price is $3.99 for the Kindle version which is a fantastic value.

Overall Rating: 4.8/5

The Eclectic Book Review of The Sword and the Dragon (Revised) (The Wardstone Trilogy Book One) by M. R. Mathias

I have read many fantasy novels in the past and few have been able to compare to the masters of the genre like The Sword and the Dragon by M.R. Mathias.  I read the new revised version of this book and even though it was exceptionally long and took me longer than expected to read, it was well worth the time.  Mr. Mathias has created a wonderful new fantasy world that rivals the size and complexity of some of the genre’s greatest authors, with well developed characters and an intriguing plot.  This is book one in a trilogy that I certainly intend to finish reading.

Description, Characterization & World-Building Rating: 5/5

The author does an exceptional job of creating a very descriptive world full of rich characters that sucks you in and makes you want to keep reading page after page.   They have created a wonderful new fantasy world that rivals the size and complexity of many of the greatest authors in this genre.

Plot & Narration Rating: 4/5

This book is full of plot twists and turns that will keep you on your toes and begging for more.  The narration is well done and generally easy to read but with a few areas that feel somewhat awkward or contain some minor spelling or grammar issues.

Value Rating: 5/5

With a current Amazon list price of $0.99 for the original Kindle version, $3.88 for the longer revised version, or $19.88 for the paperback copy of the revised edition, this is an excellent value and offers something for every price point.

Overall Rating: 4.7/5

The Eclectic Book Review of Mehsia’s Medallion by Brenda Walker

In Mehsia’s Medallion, Brenda Walker employs a fresh new signature style of storytelling to immerse the reader in a fantasy world full of chaos.  As one of the shorter novels I have read, just over 100 pages, the author sends you on a journey that grabs hold of you and keeps you turning the pages from start to finish.  No Fantasy fan should be without this book!

Description, Characterization & World-Building Rating: 5/5

The author has created a new world that rivals those of well known fantasy novels.  The characters are highly interesting and engaging.

Plot & Narration Rating: 5/5

The plot is swift and suspenseful, with exceptional narration moving you through the story.

Value Rating: 4/5

With a current Amazon list price of $5.99, which I personally feel it is slightly high for a book of this length, it is still a good price for Fantasy fans.

Overall Rating: 4.7/5
